Just as a side note on mo bhean's nurse registration she has to prove she did her entire schooling in English, I wonder do any people who want to emigrate have any problems if they went to a Gaelscoil?

edit: just found out that have to do an English test to get their registration, I bet little Rónán & Caoimhe will cursing their parents

Don't sweat it too much, a Shomhairle. They can't make the English test too hard - most Aussies can't speak English properly anyway, let alone write it.

There is evidence out there to support the fact that not only does attending a Gaelscoil NOT have a negative impact on one's English, but often students attending Gaelscoileanna do better in English than their scoil lán Béarla counterparts! How's that for a good reason to attend a Gaelscoil!

It's well documented that bi-lingual children have better language stills.
There aren't any monolingual Irish speaking children anymore. All Irish native language children are English speaking now too.
In the case of children in Gaelscoileannaí most will be speaking English at home anyhow.

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.

There is lots of evidence to suggest that the advantage goes beyond language too - problem solving skills etc. Bilingual children recognise that there are different ways of approaching the same thing with language and extend that ability to other areas too. Quite honestly, I cannot understand why someone in Ireland who has a Gaelscoil nearby, would send their child to any other school. Talk about denying your child a great headstart!

It's a great reason in favour of the Gaelscoil, try telling that to an immigration officer though I am sure you will look really clever as they use your application to doodle on!
