Some of you may already have seen the thread about the song A Riogain Uasail in the Gàidhlig thread. I'm posting here to ask that you (especially the fluent speakers) check out that thread and help with my transcription of the lyrics to the song. It's a beautiful song, by the author of Mo Ghille Mear (and using the same tune), and I'd like to get the lyrics right.

It's sung at this link on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hVFSbqwwwg

There are two singers, one Irish and one Scottish, and they mix the two languages in the song. Verses 1, 3, 4, and 7 are in Gaelic, except that the first line of verse 1 appears to be in Irish (perhaps because the song was originally written in Irish and the first line became more or less standard). Verses 2, 5, 6, and 8 are in Irish. I've numbered the verses in my attempt at a transcription.

I'm hoping that Lughaidh and/or NiallBeag can fix the Gaelic verses, and that they and others here will fix the Irish. I'm having trouble hearing parts of it, but I think the native/fluent speakers will hear what I'm missing pretty easily. In fact, the lyrics are uncomplicated enough that I suspect the fluent Irish speakers will be able to make out some or all of the Gaelic, too, or at least that they will be able to hear the sounds which I am having trouble hearing.

GRMA as bhur gcuidiú!

Thanks to NiallBeag and Bríd for their help thus far on this. No one else needs to strain their ears, though. I've got the CD coming and I learned today that a new edition of the poems of Seán Clárach Mac Domhnaill was published in Dublin in 2011, and I just ordered a copy on Amazon (UK) at a fairly reasonable price, so even if the CD comes without lyrics, A Riogain Uasail should be in the book, at least in its Irish version.

In case anyone in Ireland is interested, I've learned that there are copies of the new book in the major university libraries in Ireland, including Dublin, Cork, Galway, and Limerick, and also at some universities in the UK (I know someone who works in a library, who searched for me). Oddly enough, the only library in the US which reports having it thus far is the public library in Portland, Maine!

If anyone else is interested, here's the publication info:

Seán Clárach Mac Dónaill
Mac Domhnaill, Seán Clárach; Ó hÓgáin, Éamonn
ISBN 10: 0946755469 / 0-946755-46-9
ISBN 13: 9780946755462
Publication Date: 2011
