Dia dhuit, I think? I have no knowledge of the language yet. Thats why I'm here. Of course, I am proud of my Irish roots, so alot of websurfing has brought me to this point. It was interesting for me to know at least one side of my family has been traced back to the "Old Country" although I have very deep Irish American roots from several ancestors. I have some pretty interesting Irish American relatives, but thats another story for a different discussion board.

Anyway, I hope to gain much knowledge.

:hullo: Hi (Dia dhuit?)!

I know i put a tattoo request up straight away, but that's because it's something i've been working on for a bit now, and really want to know! Beyond that, my girlfriends and I are all looking to learn Irish, so here seems like a good place to be a part of. If someone could point me in the direction of good resources, I'd be much obliged. If not, that's ok, too. :)

Wishing you all a good day,

~djinni

Dia's Muire dhuit freisin, a djinni. (Hi to you too, djinni.)

Are you interested in a particular region of Ireland (by family connection, etc.)?

The family I was able to trace is from the Mullingar area. They raised cattle for several generations before heading over to America in the mid-1800s.

I'd be fanciful of learning whatever dialect is appropriate to that, but I'm not so keen on it that I'll refuse to learn a different one.

Have a good night,
~djinni
p.s.
'Freisin' is 'also' ?

Dia dhaoibh a Shéafra agus djinni

I'm sorry to say there's no native Irish left in Mullingar, but Ráth Chairn is about 25 miles away and they speak Connacht dialect there. Mullingar is not too far from Galway either, and that's the main area for Connacht Irish.
