I haven't seen Wombat here or on IGTF for some time and I note her name no longer appears on the member list at IGTF. I miss seing her posts. Do any of you know where she went?

I heard from her recently. As Bríd said, she's working in Athlone, and only spending the weekends at home in Donegal. That and her studies are, I think, leaving her very little time for the internet.

I should email her, though, and let her know what happened at IGTF and how to find us here so, if her circumstances change, she'll know where to look for us.

I'm trying to remember what Baile Átha Luain means. I am reliably informed that Dé Luain means sweet so that is a good start....

Tá wombat anseo! Tá mé ag obair i mBaile Atha Luain, mar a deirtear, agus tá mé díreach tar éis tosú mo chuid taighde PhD. It's keeping me pretty busy, but I'll try to get on the forum a bit more often. I don't want to lose touch with my friends here. The new job is absolutely fantastic. My job is to research things in scentific journals, etc., come up with ideas, and put together a proof of concept or prototype it. If it turns out to be a good idea, then it goes off to some other group to implement for reals. It's kind of like a think tank. I do all of the fun stuff and none of the boring stuff. I get to use any programming language or OS I want. And as everyone knows, every chocolate chip cookie that a wombat eats turns into an idea, so coming up with ideas is as easy for me as eating CCCs. This is basically my dream job.

And there's more exciting stuff afoot. My artificial life créatúir have caught the interest of some other folks, and so two people are going to use it for their own research (one MSc, and one PhD, in addition to the PhD I myself am working toward). If I weren't such a humble wombat, I'd be feeling rather proud of that. So life is very good for wombat these days. It's a little unsettling living in two places, but I can cope with that.
