The new owners at IGTF have now banned Bríd and Gumbí, saying they had "commercial links" in their signatures. In fact, the only link either of them had in their signatures was a link to this forum, which is NOT a commercial site.

Linking to other Irish-related sites has never, until now, apparently, been against the rules at IGTF. Even for-profit sites were allowed, with permission of the admin, so long as they were relevant.

In fact, the owners' very loose relationship with the truth is demonstrated by the fact that the word "confirmation" in Gumbí's sig, which used to point to ILF, now DOES point to a spam site. It was clearly altered by the new owners to make it look like Gumbí had done something wrong.

Considering the out-and-out lies they told about the moderators after the blow-up (claiming we'd "abused privileges" by indiscriminately locking and altering posts...which did NOT happen), it's clear that they're out to discredit anyone who isn't willing to play their little game.

To add insult to injury, they've added commercial links to every registered user's posts (between the post body and the sig), and are using some kind of program that picks up key words within posts and turns them to spam links as well.

If you post there now, you WILL be a spammer because they WILL add spam links to your posts. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not willing to be used that way.

Even more interesting...under your post in the Google Translate thread, there's an indication that it was last edited by you in 2010...and the word "edited" is a link to a spam site!

Hmmm... My signature just said "Await confirmation always, please". in the past few weeks, though, I've been directing people here for confirmation (understandably). I'm pretty f*cking pissed that they're messing with my account now.

Yeah...in fact, it looks like they're trying to make you look bad by inserting a commercial link where there was none before.

They only come up when you are logged in, so you won't be able to see it if you are banned.

As Breandán said, you have to be logged in (they haven't gotten around to re-banning me yet, so I can still log in). It's the word "confirmation" in your sig...if you're logged in, it shows up as a hyperlink and leads to a spam site.

I don't think it is visible in Ireland at the moment. They are trying it out in America first.

A friend of mine posted that I had been banned. And explained that ILF wasn't a commercial site. They deleted the thread. Free speech is not something that they believe in.

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

Hmm... it appears that under the Data Protection Act, we have a right to force them to remove our posts -- especially since they are now being used for a different purpose (spamming) than they were originally intended. Furthermore, the new use to which our posts are being put damages our individual reputations. I notice that Eoin's name is still on the forum; he should insist that they change that.

Oh wait... the servers are in the U.S., so U.S. law probably applies. Where are the owners located?
