I'm wondering what the genitive forms of an adjective like Indiach ‘Indian’ are. I know that most adjectives in -ach take -aigh in the genitive masculine singular and -aí in the genitive feminine singular (e.g. teach an fhir Éireannaigh ‘the Irish man’s house’; hata na mná Éireannaí ‘the Irish woman’s hat’), and the Caighdeán Oifigiúil says adjectives in -íoch are unchanged in the gen.m.s. and take -íche in the gen.f.s., but what about adjectives in -iach?

How would you say ‘the Indian man’s house’? Teach an fhir Indiaigh? That looks plausible to me, but what about ‘the Indian woman’s hat’? Hata na mná Indiaí just looks really, really wrong.

Any thoughts from native or fluent nonnative speakers?

Wingléacht gives "Indiaigh" as genitive singular and nominative plural of Indiach (as a noun).

As an adjective, it gives Indiach, gs Indigh, gs feminine Indí, npl Indiacha...

Interestingly enough, Dinneen gives Indiathach as an adjective, declined as any -ach-ending adjective (Indiathaigh, Indiathaighe...).

Cool, thanks! WinGléacht doesn't work on my computer anymore since I upgraded from 32-bit Windows XP to 64-bit Windows 7. :(
