This is interesting, but why did you post it twice? I know you have additional information in this post, but it would have been better posted in your original thread.

I thought maybe the title would have turned people off. Of course, the real reason no one is interested in it as it a)might involve learning something more about Ireland than "My ancestors came from country blah blah blah and b) it might have some relevance to Irish history and socio-economics and as we've seen before here, that's a bit taboo on these sorts of forums

You should ask the mods to lock the other one, then, to avoid confusion.

I don't know that people aren't interested in it. Often people look at things but don't comment on them.

I certainly don't know where you've gotten the idea that folks on Irish language forums don't like posts about Irish history (can't speak for socio-economics, as I don't know that I've ever seen the topic come up outside of a historical context). We got posts about Irish history at the old place all the time...I'm guessing the only reason we haven't seen more here is this forum in general hasn't been as active.

Oh, BTW, as far as I know, you can always change the title of a post. You don't have to start a new one just for that.

Ok, if you can remove this one then to avoid confusion, that would be grand

I can't do either...I'm not a mod. Someone should be able to do one or the other shortly, though.

I locked the other thread a while ago.

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

Thanks! These icons don't stand out as well for me as the others did...I didn't notice the little "locked" icon.

I recall a remark or two on how none of this 'wasn't relevant' despite the fact that I only post such material now and again and in certain threads
