Hello all, im having a tattoo done and i obviously want it to be correct so would really appreciate any help anyone can give me as then i know it will be right. I want 'faith and family' in Irish Gaelic due to my mum and family being Irish but although mum was taught some in the convent she cant remember enough. As far as i know what i want 'CReideamh agus MuintiR' Am i close? Also i want it in Gaelic font.Sorry im asking a lot but a huge thank you x
Apart from the uppercase r’s (not sure if that was deliberate, to make it look like a Gaelic font, or if it was just accidental?),
creideamh agus muintir works for ‘faith and family’.
Creideamh is ‘belief’ or ‘faith’, mostly in the religious sense. ‘Faith’ in the non-religious sense (as in “I have faith in you”) would more commonly be
muinín; but from what you say, it looks like the religious sense is the one you’re looking for.
Muintir is a broad word for one’s ‘family’ or ‘people’ (“they’re my people”). It includes more or less everyone you consider to be related to you (not necessarily only by blood, but also by other means, so you can include your closest friends or the people you generally share your life with and depend upon in your daily life). There are other words to describe the very vague English concept of ‘family’ with different emphases, but since you mention your mum and her family being Irish, I take it this is the one you want.
In a Gaelic font, it would look like this:
Creideaṁ agus muintir— or, if you prefer to use an ampersand instead of the word ‘and’, like this:
Creideaṁ ⁊ muintir
