Wanting to know what the Caitlin Maude song is about. I absolutely love the way she sings and this song in particular is just beautiful, but I can't find lyrics or translation anywhere. If someone is up to the challenge I'd love to know what she is singing about. Here is a link to the song (4th one down):

Thanks,

I'm not surprised you didn't get an answer. That website looks dodgy.
This is a better preview -

or this from Nikki Ragsdale

I couldn't find the lyrics online. So I can't really tell you what the song is about.

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

I have the same problem - I've managed to get hold of the CD (through Price Minister from Germany, would you believe) and nowhere can I find the lyrics. Is trua mór sin. Here's what it says on the CD -
Caitlín first heard of the tune of Uileacáin Duibh Ó from the piper Willie Clancy, 'The Bold Trainer O'. Then she found the words in a schoolbook. An Ulsterman dispossessed by the Planters asks a girl to come to Connacht with him. She won't, even though he promises: "nach bhfuil coir dá ndéanfadh sí nach-íocfainn a cáin." For she doesn't love him, and she knows: "nach gcoinneodh do ghlórtha beo gan mé".
And that's as much as I know about it.
I imagine that the poems on the CD have been published and that other singers have recorded the same songs. Here's a list of what's on the CD -
Dán
Dónall Óg
Impí
Uileacáin Duibh Ó
Amhrán Grá Vietnam (which was included on another CD by Alan Stivell
An Bonnán Buí
Aimhréidh
Is Fada mo Chosa gan Bróga
Mo Dháimh
Currachaí na Trá Báine
Liobar
Róisín Dubh
A Dhé
Liam Ó Raghallaigh
Na Blátha
An tSailchuach
(She's also to be found on YouTube)
