I think I'd better give you the context -

And they galloped on through the night
and 'twasn't long until the horses were getting a bit tired.
And then the horse she was riding
stumbled and got a lame ankle.
"Ah" he said "we'll have to leave the poor beast
and you just sit up and ride my horse behind me."
"Ah" she said "we'd be very slow."
"(It) can't be helped", he said,
so she got up behind him and rode pillion, behind him.

I think this 'it can't be helped' means 'it can't be avoided'.

How about

Níl dul as.

Níl neart air was the first think that sprang to mind.

I'd use Níl aon dul as (againn) also

I agree that Níl leigheas air or perhaps Níl leigheas ar bith ar an scéal works too

and in the context Níl an dara rogha againn probably works too.
