I use alt codes to type fadas. All of a sudden yesterday, between one post and the next, they stopped working at Facebook...all that happens if I type, say alt0237 (which should give me an í) is a brief flickering of the screen.

They work every place else, including here (obviously, as I was able to type the í).

Please don't suggest trying an alternative keyboard layout. I tried that on my netbook, and I hated it...never could adapt to it. I touch-type the alt codes, and I'm very comfortable using them.

Well, seems it's working in Chrome, but not in IE. I'm not wedded to IE, but it's a major PST changing browsers! Grrr.

Do you have [Num Lock] on, Red? If you use the number pad at the right side of your extended keyboard, then [Num Lock] has to be on for those codes to work.

I just hold the CTRL button, the one next to the arrow directions (not the one under the shift button), and then I just press the required vowel. That might not work for all keyboards though, especially if its one that's not for English.

Meanwhile I hold 'ALT GR' and the required vowel. Again I'm not sure if it works for all keyboards, but it seems to work for all over here.

US keyboards don't have an ALT GR key. You can create one by changing your keyboard layout (I suspect that's what An Cionnfhaolach has done...if you choose a certain layout, one of your CRTL keys becomes a functional ALT GR key), but I've found dealing with a new keyboard layout to be a lot more problematic than just typing the alt codes, especially as I can do the alt codes by touch.

Caoimhín...yes, I have the num lock on. They're working in Chrome, in Word, and in IE on websites other than Facebook.
