Níl ann ach 30% d'ábhar deiridh faoi láthair, ach is é an chéad chéim é...

It's looking good so far. :good:

(I tried it out on "break" which we were looking at in another thread: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1847)

If you type in "break" then go to "13 verb cause to fail", you'll see:

Quote:
INTRANSITIVE
he'll break sooner or later géillfidh sé luath nó mall

This also confirms our use of géill in that thread for "break".

Even your students would find something of interest there!

Swearwords were not the first words I checked  but as we are on the subject ...

fuck me = in ainm Dé :D

The new dictionary has a very nice layout. Tidy and easy to read and search.
You can get Irish words first by doing the "advanced search".

I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

Irish is sooooooo much more palatable than English!

One can listen to the pronunciatio by clicking on C M or U after the translations of the words.
But this is a bit strange because I checked "teach", and for Munster, they pronounce "tigh", as if "tigh" were the Munster pronunciation of "teach"... while it's a different form (tigh is the old dative). They should have written "tigh"...

Same thing with "dog", they write "madra" and the Ulster speaker says "madadh"...
They want nobody to be able to write in his/her dialect...? sigh

I searched for "Irish", no pronunciations or variants.
For the sentence:
they're speaking Irish tá siad ag labhairt na Gaeilge, tá siad ag labhairt as Gaeilge, tá siad ag labhairt i nGaeilge

they don't give the very common "tá siad ag labhairt Gaeilge"...
And who says "tá siad ag labhairt as Gaeilge"? Munster people say "táid (siad) ag labhairt as Gaelainn"...

D'fhan muid ar feadh an oiread sin bliadhantach le foclóir mar sin? Bhí mé ag dúil le foclóir i bhfad níos feárr agus i bhfad níos cuimsithighe ná sin... :(

Another piece of evidence that the government and Forás na Gaeilge don't care about Gaeltacht Irish.

You are right we should have dialectical spelling available too. But maybe when the project is complete there will be, it's only one third finished yet.
At least we have good dialectical pronunciation, accurate and clear.

Aontaim leat. Is aisteach an cinneadh é. Tá a fhios agam go raibh litriú malartach na gcanúintí ann ar ball, sna samplaí a bhí foilsithe acu ar an tsuíomh. Cá dteachaigh sé?
