I'm just wondering whether it's possible to translate "How am I going to...?" as in...

"How am I going to survive without my hair straighteners?"
"How am I supposed to work under these conditions?"

That kind of phrase, y'know what I mean? I appreciate it might not be idiomatic to have a direct translation, I just couldn't think how to even start translating that kind of phrase.

normally conas is followed by the direct relative, ie. "conas a bheidh" (if you say "how will... be").

How could I... (as Breandán said) is "Conas a d'fhéadfainn..." in Munster.
Using the conditional as I said, you'd get "Conas a + verb in the conditional".
How would I do... = Conas a dhéanfainn...
How would I go... = Conas a raghainn...
How would I survive= Conas a mhairfinn...

Goidé an dóigh a mairfidh mé gan mo 'hair straighteners' a bheith agam? (GU)
Goidé an dóigh a bhfuil mé in ainm a bheith ag obair faoi na coingheallacha seo? (GU)

or in standard spelling:

Cad é an dóigh a mairfidh mé gan mo 'hair straighteners' a bheith agam? (CO)
Cad é an dóigh a bhfuil mé in ainm a bheith ag obair faoi na coinníollacha seo? (CO)

Nope! I meant what I wrote. In ainm a bheith can have the meaning 'supposed to be', so it's appropriate for translating the original phrase. In ann means 'able to', so it wouldn't be a very faithful translation of the original English.

I was about to stick up for you on this one actually :P But do you not have to shove the copula in there to make it "in ainm is a bheith"? It's not a construction I come across much but I thought your had to put the copula in.

Also, is "Conas gur féidir liom..." in common usage? Is it definitely good irish? No offence to Rossaí, just checkin!
