Cad é an réimniú cóir bhriathair "cumaisc"? De réir an réimneoir seo, briathar an chéad cheann is ea é, ach is follas gur mícheart an fhoirm "cumaiscann" atá á fháil acu araon. An cóir dom a scríobh "cumaisceann" nó "cumascann"? Nó an fearr an dara réimniú a úsáid, mar atá "cumaiscíonn" (nó, ar leathnú, "cumaiscaíonn")?

Do réir fhoclóir Uí Dhónaill:

cumascann
cumaisc!
ag cumasc
cumasctha

mar sin, 1d réimiú, mar "mol" srl.

According to "Leabhar Mór Bhriathra na Gaeilge":

aimsir láithreach (present tense) is cumascann

ainm briathartha (verbal noun) is cumascadh

aidiacht bhriathartha (verbal adjective) is cumaiscthe

and this word is the same briathar gaolta (verb type) – which means that it is conjugated exactly the same way – as siúil. Hmm … if it's conjugated the same way as siúil, shouldn't the verbal noun be cumasc?

I hope that helped.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Foclóir Uí Dhónaill is right about the verbal noun because Hughes says that it's conjugated the same way as siúil.

cumasctha atá i bhfoclóir Uí Dhónaill ach cumaiscthe!

Cad chuige? Tá cumascadh le fáil san fhoclóir mar leagan malartach...

They're both right as far as I can see...

That's a good point. I've ran across words that have 2 different verbal nouns.
