With the whole pósadh / bainis thing, what is the most usual way to simply say, 'Wedding invitation'?

Posadh is used for the act of marrying and bainis is the wedding itself

Definitely not if you are referring to the invitation (the physical piece of paper, whatever), but if you are referring to the act of inviting someone, then sure, I don't see why not.

I heard somewhere that pósadh is the marrying part and bainis is the celebration afterwards ie. wedding reception. If that is the case, probably 'cuireadh pósta' for the initial part agus 'cuireadh bainise' for the reception part. What do the wedding connoisseurs out there think?

I'm not sure that cuireadh chuig bainis/cuireadh chun bainise would be wrong for the physical, written or verbal, invitation, but that's not to say that cuireadh bainise isn't right either,
My feeling, though is that you wouldn't extend a cuireadh pósta to everyone, only to your intended spouse, I might be wrong, but there again…

I could be wrong, but this is how it was explained to me: pósadh means marriage and bainis means wedding. The bainis is the actual wedding day, a one-off event (hopefully) and the pósadh is something that continues on after the wedding day is over.


That sounds about right to me.
