A friend of mine wants to name his house. He wants it to be called the house in the hill. The translation I came up with was Teach sa cnoc. Wondering if that would be correct or if there are any better/alternative translations?

Teach ar an gnoc (House on the Hill) seems better to me. I'm not sure, but I think sa would imply that the house is inside the hill, as in underground. Wait to see what the others think of that.

I suggest - Tigh ar an gcnoc (I also think that sa would mean - in the) - you could also say - the house of the hill - Tigh an chnoic.

Remember, preposition + definite article = lenition in Ulster Irish.

It would have to be Teach sa Chnoc (CO) (or Teach sa gCnoc (GC)) but, as others have pointed out, that means "House IN the hill". Is that what you meant? (The Ulster version would be the same as CO in this case.)

Thanks for all the translations! He specifically wants house IN the hill. Hard to explain unless you were able to see the area.

Breandán's suggestion Teach sa Chnoc looks like the best fit.
