It looks like it will be up and running in beta soon.
Sign up to be notified (looks like they have nearly 8,000 already).

Does anyone have any details about the dialect or where the contributors are from? It seems like only one of the three of them has actually been doing the work.

I don't know anything about them, nor about the course.
It will be interesting to see how it turns out. By the speed they are going at now I'd say it will be online in another week.

I'm just an observer from the sidelines, but I can give some details that I've gathered from hounding anything Irish on the Duolingo boards. :P According to Alex, who is the one who's been putting ridiculous hours into the course: 'We aim to teach an Caighdeán but there will be aspects of other dialects every now and then.' Keep in mind that the current progress to the estimated 1-2week release is just towards beta release. Beta release is a structurally complete basis for the course, but generally lacking many variants of the possible translations - it can be frustrating for many users who interpret this as a fully usable course, as they receive many unfair incorrect marks due to many possible answers being missing from the database. Over time, the course will build up an array of possible translations which includes dialectal variations, especially if there are more natives to contribute. Beta progress is measured by reports per X amount of time (can't recall the specifics at the moment) - when reports are under a certain percentage per X time, the course is considered stable enough for official release.

OK, that's exactly what I expected.

I was very active in their Portuguese beta and put in a lot of additional translations so I know what to expect here. The'll need some people with strong Irish language skills to participate in the beta for sure.

That's interesting info. I was wondering what conditions they used to measure when I course was taken out of beta. Let's just see if it can survive the language zealots...

Thanks for your response!

Haha! It was drawn by one of the Dutch contributors apparently; I guess she's not used to dealing with vertical stripes :P

It's the Ivory Coast flag.
For Ireland, green should be nearest the flag-pole. Unless I'm mistaken.

Nah, pretty sure that's right - green on the pole, orange farthest. That's how I've always seen it myself. I'd never seen the Ivory Coast flag before though - I'm amazed at how similar they are. You'd think they could at least change the shades a little more! :P
