Local Gaelscoil jersey has 'Teanga Creidimh Todhchaí' on it.

It does not seem correct to me but it surely cannot be wrong as it is the official motto of a school.

I would have thought it should be a) creideamh and b) can todhchaí be used on its own? and c) a few commas wouldn't go astray!

Interested to see what the muintir here think.

If it’s intended to mean ‘language, belief, future’, then you’re right: it should read teanga, creideamh, todhchaí—or better yet, ár dteanga, ár gcreideamh, ár dtodhchaí.

Teanga creidimh todhchaí is not incorrect, though: it simply means something else. I’m not sure exactly what it means, because I don’t know what a ‘future belief-language’ is … but that’s what it says.

Always wait for at least three people to agree on a translation, especially if it’s for something permanent.

My translations are usually GU (Ulster Irish), unless CO (Standard Orthography) is requested.

It certainly looks wrong in the context - but perhaps it is a multidenominational school! (Really!)

Being a Gaelscoil would not prevent such an error anyway. I went to an all-Irish school and, believe me, inaccuracies were not uncommon. I was looking at its Facebook page the other day and there were some pics of a Geography lesson being taught. The Irish on the whiteboard left a lot to be desired.

It is a indeed a multidenominational school.

I accept fully that Gaelscoileanna will often be lán le botúin but surely not on their jumpers! Surely?

Makes me feel a little better with my linguistic weirdisms I put on this page, plus sounds like I'm not the only one with
some misspelling going on. Thanks for bringing it up. It's those kinds of things I look at and think "What in the world
