If you’re going to get it tattooed, I hope you realise that you have a few words misspelt in there: a missing accent over a letter is just as wrong as a wrong letter in Irish. I’ve added the accents in the quote here, and highlighted the letters that needed them in red.

Pronunciation will vary quite a bit, depending on which dialect you choose. An approximation in Ulster Irish would be:

(uh) A-hur, guh GASS-fer leh HYAY-leh shin uh-REESH(T), guh GUNN-nyee JEE-uh (ih) MUSH uh LAHH-veh (h)oo
[(ə) ˈahɚ, gɤ ˈgasfɚ le ˈçeːlə ʃɪɲː əˈɾiːʃ(t), gɤ ˈgɤɲːi ˈciˑɐ (ɪ) ˈmˠɤ͡ɪʃ ə ˈɫæːʋɘ (ɦ)u̟]

Always wait for at least three people to agree on a translation, especially if it’s for something permanent.

My translations are usually GU (Ulster Irish), unless CO (Standard Orthography) is requested.

Angie, I've merged your pronunciation request back into the original thread. Please keep all further enquiries related to this translation in this thread. ;)

As noted by kk, you cannot drop the accents in Irish without changing the meaning.

Here's a Connemara-style pronunciation:

A athair, go gcasfar le chéile sinn arís,
uh AE-hurh guh GAHSS-fur leh HHAY-lih SHIN ya-RHEESHCH

go gcoinní Dia i mbois a láimhe thú.
guh GWIN-ee JEE-uh ih MOSH a LAWV-ih HOO.

Thank you for your help-I knew of the accent marks but am unaware of how to make them directly over the letters on my computer. (yes, I am capable but not proficient on my computer!) :-/

I do so appreciate your help... the idea in my head to pay tribute to the father I never knew (as well as the father I did know) would not have been possible if I had not found this site. Again- many thanks- and thanks for your patience with me!

Angie

Good luck with your tribute. We'll be here if you need more information or want to change anything, etc.
