I was wanting to check a translation for "Live, Love, Laugh". I have found a picture of a tattoo that uses the following: "Saol, Gra, Gaire". Is this correct?

Saol, Grá, Gáire "Life, Love, Laughter"

As you can see, it is slightly different from the English "Live, Love, Laugh". This is because those three verbs are not usually represented by single words in Irish.

The Irish verbs would be clausal verbs. Another version goes:

Caith Saol, Tabhair Grá, Déan Gaire, literally "Spend Life, Give Love, Make Laughter" but as you can see the phrase becomes somewhat unwieldy.

One workaround is simply to use the nouns instead as in the version you have found.

I came across another variation that would also work:

Beatha, Grá, Gáire "Life, Love, Laughter"

Again it uses nouns, but a different word for "life". Beatha is also found in uisce beatha the Irish word for "whiskey" literally "water of life".

Whether you use saol or beatha for "life" is much of a muchness, so go with whichever one you think looks better:

Saol - Grá - Gáire

Beaṫa - Grá - Gáire

(Commas didn't look so great, so you might like to consider a different set of dividers.)
