I want to get a tattoo of the saying "The end is just a new beginning."
So far i have found
Ní sa deire ach tosach nua. (The end is merely a new beginning.)
Gan deireadh gan tús(Without ending there is no beginning.)

I really like the first one but I'm not positive its correct and it might be too long. Can anyone confirm these and let me know if there are any other ways to translate this?

I think there are problems with both versions.
Maybe 'Ní an deireadh ach tús nua'
Wait for the more learned to find at least three reasons why I'm wrong......

The first one doesn't seem quite right to me (maybe it's a dialect thing). I'd say:

Ní an deireadh ach tús nua

Wait for more input on that, please.

because "an deireadh" is definite.

Ní deireadh go tús.

Be sure to get three in agreement with a translation given.

Thanks guys can i get a direct translation on what Braoin posted "Ní deireadh go tús." Does that work? I like the other saying alot but im not sure if "Ní hé an deireadh ach tús nua" will fit on my ribs

It's not any longer than the English.

The structure Braoin has suggested sometimes works very nicely, but sometimes it can be difficult to unlock the meaning.

Changing the verb in one version you were given Níl sa deireadh ach tosach nua would have made it at least grammatically correct.


Perhaps it would also be possible to say:

Ní deireadh é ach tús nua. "It isn't an end but a new beginning."

The nuance is slightly different, though, and there isn't much gain for the pain.


Ní hé an deireadh ach tús nua is the safest bet.
