I'm a bit confused by this one (what's new?) Isn't Ó Briain the proper Irish spelling? I didn't think there was supposed to be another fada there.

Watch the youtube link above. He has abandoned the one and only fada. He is now spelling it O Briain. He thinks the English wouldn't be able to cope with a fada!

Aye it's Ó Briain but maybe he decided to spell it "O Briain" without the síneadh fada on the O. But I didn't watch the video yet.

Ah yes, it makes sense now that I watched the video. Saoirse (quite rightly) added the fada to the Ó in the original post, and that's what threw me off. I thought it was the spelling Ó Briain that was being questioned.

Thats it, yeah. The English got their head around the whole pronuciation of his whole name, I dont think they'd struggle with the Ó

Agreed. And even if a few did, I'm not sure I'd start changing my name for them.
Saoirse Ronan has opened up a whole new name to the Americans! She has paved the way for all Saoirses that follow her! :mrgreen:
