Good moring. I am trying to get translations for the following two phrases for a tattoo:

"May the circle remain (be) unbroken"
"The tie that binds"

Not certain if it really matters or would apply, but would prefer using the Ulster Irish dialect. Please excuse my naivety...I am very new to this!

Thank you for any and all help.

Justin

It's not entirely clear what you want, since the Ulster dialect of Irish is not the same as Scottish Gaelic, although the Ulster dialect is sometimes closer to Scottish Gaelic than other Irish dialects are.

If what you want is Scottish Gaelic, here are some possibilities:

Guma fuirich an cearcall neo-bhrisde
May the circle remain unbroken

An dàimh a cheangailidh
The tie that binds

FYI, there's a separate section on this forum for Scottish Gaelic requests, at the bottom of the "Dialects" section. You might want to post any further SG requests there.

Some corrections:

Quote:
Guma fuirich an cearcall neo-bhrisde
May the circle remain unbroken

I'd say:
Gum fan an cearcall gun bhriseadh
(as far as I know, "guma" is a form of the copula)

Quote:
An dàimh a cheangailidh
The tie that binds

dàimh is a link between people only, I think. If it is what was needed, anyway the verb would be "a cheanglas:

An dàimh a cheanglas

jbhembree, I notice that you have two topics going and that you have asked for Ulster Irish in both. Is the SG (which stands for Scottish Gaelic) in the Subject of this topic a mistake, perhaps? Were you actually after the Ulster dialect of Irish Gaelic? If so, I will close/lock this topic.

If you really want both, I'll leave this one up.

I'm fine with this being in the Aistriúcháin - Translations forum as long as it's marked SG (if that is what is sought). The Gaeilge na hAlbain - Scottish Gaelic forum is more for learners of that dialect/language to ask questions and discuss topics that are specific to that dialect/language.
